Tequesta FL Waterfront Homes for Sale: Buyer and Seller Guide

Tequesta is a small village just north of Jupiter in Palm Beach County, with residential frontage on the Loxahatchee River and other local waterways. For waterfront buyers, the key question is not whether a home is on the water. It is where that water goes.

I am Kyle Camerlinck, broker and owner of Taiter Realty in Jupiter. This is my combined guide to Tequesta waterfront homes. If you are deciding between towns, start with my Jupiter vs. Tequesta comparison, and for the wider market see my Tequesta real estate guide.

Where is the water, and where does it go?

Frontage and the route from any lot to the Intracoastal Waterway or open water vary by parcel. Bridge clearances, depth and tide can limit the boat you can keep behind the house. My guides to bridge clearances and air draft and the five factors that set waterfront prices explain how I check this. For village information, see the Village of Tequesta residents page.

Docks, seawalls and permits

Flood risk, insurance and maintenance

Confirm the property's current FEMA flood zone on the FEMA flood maps and get a flood insurance quote before you commit. Saltwater exposure affects docks, seawalls, exteriors and mechanical systems, so budget for it. See my flood zone and insurance guide.

Schools, clubs and services

Confirm address-specific school assignments with the School District of Palm Beach County. Tequesta Country Club is a private club; membership terms come from the club.

Checklist for a specific listing

  • Legal waterfront frontage on the survey and plat
  • Dock or slip ownership, permits and inspections
  • FEMA flood zone, elevation certificate and insurance quotes
  • HOA or POA documents and waterfront rules
  • Dated comparable sales

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Tequesta part of Jupiter?

No. Tequesta is a separate village in northern Palm Beach County, just north of Jupiter. I compare the two in my Jupiter vs. Tequesta guide.

Do Tequesta waterfront homes have ocean access?

Some do and some do not. The route to the Intracoastal and the Jupiter Inlet, bridge clearances and water depth vary by parcel and must be verified.

Where do I check permit rules for a dock?

Florida DEP publishes dock permitting guidance, and the Village of Tequesta handles local permits. Confirm requirements for the specific property.

Which school is assigned to a Tequesta address?

Confirm address-specific assignments with the School District of Palm Beach County.

What do Tequesta waterfront homes cost?

Prices change with each sale, so I do not publish a range here. Ask me for a dated report of current listings and closed sales.

My recommendation

Confirm the water first, then the house.

If you own a home and are weighing a sale, send me your address and I will give you a property-specific review based on current comparable sales.
